why Paul persecuted the church if Israel was the church. Why would Paul persecute his own people?

I was taught that the Church started at Pentecost. Prove me wrong.
Interesting. It has been implied that I'm practically a heretic yet nobody can answer a few simple questions/requests.

Read Stephen's speech in Acts 7 when he refers to Moses and the Israelties as "the church". (You'll need to know Greek).
