Some think this is ideal, but,for some of us due to our occupations, must use alternate plans. We lay aside on the first day of the week.

I agree! I feel what is important is that we ,set aside gifts to God through the local Church. Having served on Vestry 2 times I can say it comes out the same, that is when I was on a board looking at the Churches books, we dealt mostly with Monthly and Yearly items in regard to our budget. Some think this is ideal, but,for some of us due to our occupations, must use alternate plans. We lay aside on the first day of the week.
That is fine dear brother. We must do what we have to!
I do not tithe - I give freewill offerings as the Lord leads and provides.

Perhaps this should be a new thread, but I have often heard about people who give 'as the Lord leads'. Could you elaborate on how this works? How exactly does the Lord lead? Is it some kind of movement in the heart? Is it when your church expresses a specific need?

Tithing, therefore, removes guilt-manipulation.

So does discernment.

Hey, it's not our fault that you Americans have bastardized the English language. My cheques come every two-weeks, but I favour tithing on a monthly basis. That's still considered honourable in my neighbourhood.

I would rather have an objective standard to go by, rather than trust in my own discernment.
Romans 14:4-6
4Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
5One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.
6He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.
2 Corinthians 9:7
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
