While I don't reject the physical aspects of healing here, I think they are more the consequence of what Isaiah is talking about. He is very much focused on sin. This is quite clear from the imputation language in verse 11.
Isaiah 53:4 says that He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. What are these griefs and sorrows and why does He carry them?
Isaiah 53:5 says that we are healed by His scourging. What is meant by healing?

Might there be a connection between Isaiah 53 and something earlier in Isaiah 6?
6:8 I heard the voice of the sovereign master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I answered, “Here I am, send me!” 6:9 He said, “Go and tell these people:
‘Listen continually, but don’t understand!
Look continually, but don’t perceive!’
6:10 Make the hearts of these people calloused;
make their ears deaf and their eyes blind!
Otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
their hearts might understand and they might repent and be healed.”
