Puritan Board Freshman
Now that British police have captured the "alleged" bomber, what is proper justice in this situation? He tried to kill hundreds, but failed.

There is no justice in the UK today.

Your question is futile.

He will get a jail term, reduced on appeal, reduced for good behaviour, etc...

The only sentence worth a fig would be life. But life doesn't mean life in the UK. I mean, the judges pass down sentences like this 'life, with a recommendation that he serve 15 years'.

How meaningless. If its 15 years, why call it 'life'????

Jonathan,

What is the sentiment of the Brits re: this issue? The Moslems seem to be establishing a strong presence in the UK and the rest of Europe. Is there any "backlash", talk of tightening your borders, or any other basic measures?

Sure, they talk of tightening borders, but Mr Blair isn't the man you Americans think he is. Politically correct, postmodern, snivelling spineless and flawed in all social policy.

Islam has a very strong presence in the UK, and that will not be diminished by closing borders. Besides, if you can get into one part of Europe now, you have a good chance of getting into Britain eventually.

Borders? We lost them, for good, in the 1970s.

You have to understand that many muslims in the UK are quite westernised, and are appalled by what has happened. This country is a lot more 'grown up' than much of the rest of the world when it comes to race and religion, and there is no backlash against Muslims or whatever, apart from in a tiny minority sector of society - I think you guys would term them 'trailer park trash'.

The problem with all our tolerance is that we tolerate the extremists, too. My wife is disabled and we get a free car. Fair enough, but so does a radical hatemongering cleric in London who has a free house, car, expenses, and so forth, all on the taxpayer. THAT is the kind of person we should be giving a large BOOT to. But no...

I try telling friends and family that-- but the way some talk-- they think he is essentially neoconservative Republican just like Bush, albeit on British soil... Bush has problems and flaws of his own, but Tony Blair... bah-humbug... a "postmodern, snivelling spineless" socialist if there ever was one...
