I have read some of the church fathers that say that 1/3rd of the angels fell.

How did this idea originate, and is there Scriptural support.

Also, there also seems to be a belief that the elect will replace the fallen angels. Can you cite sources and do you all have any ideas who was the first to conceive this idea and who were the champions of this view?

It was actually 33.3% that fell.

That struck me off-guard, brother, and I spit out my juice! Nothing like the PB for precision.

Rev. 12:4

This has been the only traditional proof-text?

His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth.

It seems to fit. So, When Satan fell, he swept 1/3rd of the angels with him and they were cast down to earth.

In Peter, it speaks of spirits in prisons. Is this spiritual bondage or are some further thrown into hell before the Second Coming (i.e. demons cast down to earth, but some then further cast into hell before Christ's Return through the power of the Gospel).
