One time I read where Luther had stated that Christ had taken a sinful nature, he became sin literally in Luthers belief. Luther had said that Christ became the most vile person and full of sin.

When Calvin addressed this he stated that Luthers words were most inappropriate.

Does anyone know where Calvin addressed Luthers error in this matter?

Thanks for your input.

Blessings.

Luther had a tendency to literally speak "stream of consciousness" kind of talk. His students (living with him) had much opportunity to write everything down. While he meant well and was certainly orthodox, we sometimes wince at things he said.

Meanwhile, Calvin was far more reserved and circumspect.

Go with Calvin when in doubt.

However, Luther would have been a much better drinking-buddy!

I doubt this claim.

I'm not aware of any place in Luther where he says anything like this. So far as I know, Calvin criticized him on Christology and some intemperate language regarding the Supper.

I'll be interested to see if anyone can produce documentation of this claim.
