* 1546 -- Martyrdom of Juan Diaz, Spanish Reformer;

* 1555 -- Martyrdom of William Hunter, English Protestant;

* 1625 -- King James I of England (VI of Scotland) died and was succeeded by Charles I; and

* 1882 -- Thomas Houston, Irish Reformed Presbyterian, died.
