My step-dad does a lot of driving for his work and is searching for some solid works to listen to while he drives. Are there any websites that you would suggest for free audio books?

Doxology Press.com has free downloads of John Calvin's Institutes, the works of Augustin, Owens, Edwards, & Charles Hodges Systematic Theology. THough he will need an mp3 player and the necessary cables, he should find these works to be some of the best of christian teaching

Free Audio Books - Religion - Download mp3 and iPod format today! has some good quality audio stuff too that free and in the public domain. It has Paradise Lost, some stuff by Chesterton, and a variety of other things. Also I think James White has a device that can read and create audio files of books, which maybe worth looking at.
