If anyone buys this non-sense about the Confederacy being in the same political strain as fascism than read The Southern Tradition : The Achievement and Limitations of an American Conservatism
by Eugene D. Genovese... Coming from the Marxist Left, but having made a spiritual odyssey back to the Christian church of his youth, Genovese offers a unique perspective with amazing honesty. It is ironic Genovese writes a more objective, appreciative and insightful history of the southern tradition than most southern conservatives could. Genovese rightly rejects simplistic reductionism perpetrated by biased political theorists and sociologists who itinerate the dubious notion that southern conservatives are in fact quasi-fascists. Genovese further notes this to be a "charge by those who know nothing about southern conservatism or fascism. Those who study both honestly will be surprised by how little fascism and southern conservatism share." The Fascist State is repugnant to parochial minded southerners. Likewise, provincial southerners with their penchant for localism, a decentralized federal polity, private schooling, voluntary civil civil associations over big government-- are repulsed by centralism, collectivism and overbearing statism.
The real Prussian emulator was the militant state of Abraham Lincoln who inaugurated a war of agression and unification-- ironically with swarms of Hessian immigrant mercenaries that encompassed his armies. In this deluge were socialist radicals like Union General Siegel leading the charge against the VMI boys at New Market.

This biased alternative history non-sense is really really irritating-- especially the stupid, ridiculous causal connection with the holocaust and hitler. This is real smear against the south... In the 19th century, slavery was dying of natural causes in spite of the civil war. In our timeline, the sons of the south--black and white--dominated the military ranks in the Great Crusade against Hitler in World War II, as they did in Korea and Vietnam.
There were Jewish Confederates who fought hard for the southern cause too... Jefferson Davis' right-hand man, Judah Benjamin was nicknamed the "Brains of the Confederacy." He served in multiple cabinet posts such as Attorney General and Secretary of War, and called for the abolition of slavery as an expedient to help the war effort with more black Confederates. So called Anti-Semitism was more strongly felt in the North... Grant practically punished Jews in areas of his occupation and Sherman was virulent in his animosity against Jews.

I don't even think this is leftist propoganda, I think this is the propoganda that is needed to give the country the image it desires. I have heard sentiments like the above from radical African Americans, that are trying to deconstruct the diefication of Lincoln and the North.
