here is my situation...my four grandchildren are being raised with a different theology than I have now. They are in a charismatic church AND they also attend "messianic christian" meetings that are all the rage in our area now. They are taught all kinds of customs and feasts and code words that are frankly useless in my opinion. I would like to know what books and music and movies any of you use with children to teach what the Bible actually says. I know the scripture is all you need but I see them watching and reading "Christian" stuff their parents got at the mega giant christian book store and I intend to sprinkle some salt on it.
any suggestions?

What ages are your grandchildren?

They are young ( but brilliant of course). the boys are 5yrs and 4yrs and the girls are 2yrs and 2 months.
They are already learning plenty about shofars and jewish alphabet and words of knowledge. Any thing I can contribute will be absorbed unless someone puts the stop to it.

For my son's 4th birthday he got a book and video set called "D is for Dinosaur". It's his absolute favorite. It teaches the truth about creation and the dinosaurs. I'll never forget the look on my MIL's face when she saw the video and said, "why are they showing people walking around with and right next to the dinosaurs?"

It's for ages 4-10. My 4 year old even told me the other day that K was for "Knowledge". I thought that was pretty good since the K is silent! He picked it up from this video. It also comes in dvd, I think.

Dear Richard,

When my daughter was 4 years old, I began to read to her 120 Dramatic Story Sermons for Children's Church by Marianne Radius http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0801077303/qid=1111157716/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-5069373-4288927?v=glance&s=books and Ninety Story Sermons for Children's Church by Marianne Radius http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_4/102-5069373-4288927?v=glance&s=books
The title suggests they're for children's church, but I read them as bedtime devotions with my daughter. The thing that impressed me about these books was Marianne Radius' ability to explain these Scriptures from a Reformed perspective on the level of little children, and make them interesting all the while being faithful to the Scriptures. In fact, the more I read these Bible stories, the more and more I found myself giving thanks to God for this dear lady and her ministry. These are not picture books, and each story is about 3 pages long. It took 3-5 minutes to read each one, and Marianne Radius would always give an application for the children.

Blessings,
DTK

Oh wow, I want to get these too. Thanks for the tip!!

I can understand the concern with the charismatic garabage...but I don't understand what is wrong with them learning about Jewish culture. Use it to your advantage. Take what they've learned about God's Covenant with Israel and show them how it relates and differs with God's Covenant with us.

Look also through many of the Homeschooling type of websites. You will find plenty...even from a Reformed perspective.

visionforum.com is Reformed. They have stuff there for yourself and for your grandchildren (including things for them to be Revolutionary War heroes, Puritan Ladies, etc). "Toys", books, dolls, drums, early american writing kits...etc, etc....WONDERFUL!!!

Another site would be Answers in Gensis that Jessica mentioned. Great stuff there for kids and adults.

Also, if you have granddaughters...you might want to try http://www.alifeoffaith.com/index.htm This is a Christian company. Elsie Dinsmore, Millie Keith, Violet Travilla. They are based on books written in the 1800's. They have dolls (these are better than the American Girl dolls...the AG doll are owned by Mattel-maker of Barbie....Elsie Dinsmore is NOT!) and accesories.
You may also like to view their page for parents and grandparents regarding the series http://www.alifeoffaith.com/elsie/parents.htm
