Richard, Ryan thanks, i'll try to check that out, if i can get off my lazy bum.

Just want to reconfirm, so its your opinion that for the casual student, grappling based arts are more practical then those emphasizing kicks and punches?

Thanks, Ryan.

Your point about all fights usually ending up on the ground is solid. I have never seen nor been in a fight where this has not been the case, unless someone had a concrete fist and could deliver a one-punch knockout. As a smaller man, I would like to have that confidence of which you speak where I could know that I could defend myself and my family without resorting to a weapon. Adrenaline really messes with you during the pre-fight scenarios (seemingly causing one of two reactions- rage or tears-without having any control over them). It would be nice to have that sweet advantage of calmness and control.

As to the 'spiritual' side of things, I was wondering how much this came into play as a requirement. I am assuming by your expereince that it is not required or worked into the training by the teachers?
