… and away we go! Week 1 of the 2024 PB Pick’em is upon us. The first few weeks of the season, but especially the first week, are always interesting because the teams are largely untested… so the initial rankings often prove remarkably premature and the prognostications are frequently wildly incorrect: Sometimes expected blowouts end up being quite close whereas anticipated close matchups wind up being entirely one-sided… and sometimes, as this past Saturday when Georgia Tech defeated Florida State, there are wild upsets. But that’s football!

Anyway, this week we have some good games to kick things off – well, they’re matchups at least… hopefully they’re good ones! - with a couple of the contests on Thursday evening, so get your picks in by 18:59 CDT on Thursday. Have fun!

I violated one of my basic rules this week - never pick against Notre Dame. Let's see how it works out for me this time.

I think that you have made a very sound decision. I don't participate in the picking. I only read this post to see which ne'er do wellers are picking against the Aggies. You know, for imprecatory prayers and such.

This PB sophomore has finished his red shirt freshman year. No expectations, however. I am a zero-star walk-on, not a 5-star blue chipper hahaha

Hi - Welcome to the contest! I'm glad you've joined us.

You might have missed something in the rules about the tiebreaking procedure. You picked the same tiebreaker game score as someone who got their picks in earlier than you did, so if you and he are tied in number of wins and need to go to the tiebreaker, you can't win the week's contest because everything between the two of you will be identical, except that he got in first. You might wish to change your score prediction.

Todd

The betting window is closed, and Coastal Carolina takes an early lead.

Per my computer, the time is off for the NC-Minn game.

Thanks for the headsup - I missed that. @SolaScriptura can I change by tiebreaker to Texas A&M (28-20)?

Nevermind - I have an odd # of different picks with the other gentleman so we can't have a tie.
Correct, I note that there are 3 games different between you and Mark. So no tie is possible and "crisis" averted.

But still, it pays to glance at previously submitted scores before posting so as to avoid risking nullifying one's possibility of winning the tie breaker.

Yup, those of us who picked Jacksonville are regretting it!

Todd had suggested I include the N Dakota St@ Colorado game, and his instincts are proving correct!

Willis, Since you want to be teacher's helper, I have a great idea: You please keep track of everyone's tally - but don't say anything - and at the end of the week, if I post an incorrect tally AND if you are the first one to reply correcting me with the correct tally... I'll give you a gold star and maybe a cookie. Sound good? :coffee:

Just playing with you... I like your enthusiasm.
