John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
It just puzzles me how Jesus could talk this way. Jesus didn't really mean we could, with the power of God's Spirit, keep His commandments, did He? Obviously Jesus was talking about performing good works, as evidence of being born again -- not letting us rely on His law-keeping in this case. It would be absurdity to suggest Jesus expected perfect obedience to His commandments ("love your neighbour as yourself"), even if we were strengthened by the Spirit. So, I'm left very confused by His words. I wonder how the disciples understood and reacted as they heard those words.
