Does anybody know if the Old Anglo-Genevan Psalter has been republished for use? With Scores?

I know the Book of Psalms for Singing as 8 old Genevan Psalms, but I would like to get a copy for my library of the Anglo-Genevan Psalter with scores so I might be able to learn them better and sing them better....

Internet midi files just do not help me very much..... Very tacky and corny...

Anybody know?

Yes, the Anglo-Genevan Psalter has been published by the Canadian Reformed Churches as the Book of Praise. It is available for sale here. There is a PCA church in Laurel, MD that uses it in corporate worship (or did when I last worshipped there). You can read more about the Book of Praise here and here (the last link includes the pdf version showing text and scores).

Mr. Daniels,

Please click on the word "Precentor" in my signature below and sample some of the MIDI's I've posted. Since you mention Geneva tunes, please especially consider Old 100th and Psalm 107 in the list found in the left-hand column labeled "Psalm Tunes".

These were performed from actual arrangements and the hope was to set them at an average tempo suitable to congregational singing. Feedback, particularly suggestions for improvement, would certainly be welcome. Thank you!

Thank you... Do you know if it comes without the 65 hymns? I would love just a plain Genevan Psalter?

Sadly, I'm not aware of a modern edition that comes without the 65 hymns.

BTW, there is an interesting study of the Anglo-Genevan Psalter that I referenced in this thread.

That is a shame it does not come without those hymns....... Well it still might be worth having it in my library and to learn the tunes......

thanks for the links... I will look over them.....

Besides the Anglo-Genevan Psalter published by the Canadian Reformed churches, I might also recommend this resource:

http://genevanpsalter.redeemer.ca/

Dr. David Koyzis from Redeemer College in Hamilton, ON has published his own translations of the Psalms along with MIDI files, an introductory essay, and a discography.

Another source of information about the Genevan Psalter:

http://www.spindleworks.com

The opening page currently has a list of articles under the heading "the Uncommon Melody." Excellent stuff. You'll also find some MIDIs there.

Thanks, I was aware of Koyzis collection though I find them harder to sing with... I guess I need the score to sing along with... He also does not have all of them.. Also the midi files are a bit lacking.... They sound fake like... Maybe if they were just Piano sound instead of 3 or 4 instruments that he as midied in.... Midi anyway are bad quality.... I prefer real recordings..... Midi's were good when everyone had slow internet connections but they are way past their time now....

I'll look at spindleworks.....

Thanks

If you go to our federational website:

www.canrc.org

And look under resources, follow the link to Psalms and Hymns and you will find basic musical notation for the psalms. Is that what you're looking for?

Wow, I like spindleworks recordings of their congregation singing of the Genevan Psalter... Where can I get copies of those... It does not look downloadable.........

You might also be interested in this psalter which contains several geneva psalms. Our church uses this Psalter along with the Book of Psalms for Singing. As far as I know, we have only used the geneva psalms, and even that is only occasionally.

I think that Riese Heemskerk (the webmaster at Spindleworks & friend of mine) simply took the singing off some of the services that are recorded at his home church, Lincoln Canadian Reformed Church in Beamsville, ON. That would be the kind of singing you would hear on an average Sunday in just about any Canadian Reformed church.

If you're interested in buying something like that, have a look at some of what Inheritance Publications has to offer:

http://www.telusplanet.net/public/inhpubl/webip/prod29.htm

There are recordings (English, Dutch and Afrikaans) and sheet music.
