Jonathan Edwards a descendant of cotton Mather?

No, that cannot be the case - not a descendant anyway. Mather was born in 1663 and Edwards in 1703. Unless Mather was Edwards's father (He wasn't) or rather young grandfather (at 40, and again, he wasn't), then there's no other realistic way of descent. I also don't they were in any way related by blood, at least not very closely. (possibly Edwards could descend from John Cotton, but I've never heard that)
