This looking upon him whom you have pierced, Zech. xii. 10, should partly dissolve you into a holy grief for sin …

Henry Scudder, The Christian’s daily walk in holy security and peace (1627; Philadelphia, 1800), p. 90.

I have found this work to be extremely helpful at various times in my Christian life.

I have not actually read the whole thing for about ten years, but I was looking at it on Saturday and decided to read his treatment of the Sabbath yesterday. It was a very edifying read, and I think I will pick it up every now and again and read particular sections again.

All being well, I will be posting a series of extracts from his writing on the Sabbath over the next few Lord's Days. Here is the first instalment: Henry Scudder on the divine institution of the Sabbath | Reformed Covenanter
