Has anyone read Colin Gunton

He died recently. He is somewhat an authority on Trinity and God's revelation. He has a very good reading of the Patristics and modern philosophical trends.

Dear Ivanhoe,

Yes, I've read most of Gunton's works (but I'm not English?!). Gunton is very stimulating as a thinker, particularly his Trinitarian theology (I love The Promise of Trinitarian Theology). His analysis of the Enlightenment and modernity is profound (see Enlightenment and Alienation and The One, the Three, and the Many). He deploys Polanyi well and takes some of the basic ideas of Lesslie Newbigin further.

However, he is in the Barthian tradition and some of his conclusions leave much to be desired. For example, following Zizioulas he argues that the being of God is communion (I can't see how this escapes being Tritheistic).

But there is much to be learnt from reading Gunton.

Blessings.

Gunton was the external marker for my M.Th. So I guess he did read my feeble efforts but I have read very little by him.
