Communion tokens

At one time Holy Communion was taken seriously in Protestant Churches. The Elders would visit members of the congregation prior to the celebration of the Lord's Supper. Those that gave evidence of regeneration were given a small metal token which was used to gain admittance to the Lord's Table.

These tokens are now avidly collected

Ok it may seem strange that I picked the blank between having seen and collecting. But I have one, a gift from my wife, but have not been collecting them. (She got herself one too.)

Spurgeon used tickets to allow admission to worship and communion. If I recall correctly you purchased tickets in lieu of taking up an offering every Sunday. They also served as record of attendance.

The Elders would examine anyone that had not been attending and revoke their tickets if they felt they should no longer be a member of the church.

Here's a couple of coins from Ebay
