What are some favorites in the realm of historical fiction? I like the Horatio Hornblower series myself.

Daniel Defoe, Sir Walter Scott, G.A. Henty, Jeff Shaara, Boris Pasternak, James Michener, Baroness Orczy Emmuska, William Styron, Victor Hugo, Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Dickens, Alexander Dumas, Joseph Conrad and Leon Uris are among my favorites.

I wasn't too impressed with Jimmy Carter's foray into historical fiction.

I have a large collection of Huguenot historical fiction books, many of which were published in the 19th century, which are quite good. As for Covenanter historical fiction, the Crown & Covenant series by Douglas Bond is good, as is Flower o' the Heather by Robert William MacKenna.

Still working on my own historical novel.
