Hi all,

Looking for advice from those more familiar with languages/translation and the Proverbs. What translations have you found helpful or ideal? Why do you prefer them over other ones? If you were going to memorize from Proverbs, which translation would you use to memorize from?

Thanks!

Well, I know that @jw typically prefers the KJV, but for memorization he would probably recommend the KJV. Yet even so, at times the KJV is his preferred alternative.

As to the "best" translation, I think I can recall @iainduguid saying once or twice that translation is hard.

;)

In all seriousness though, I do appreciate the KJV a lot for memorization.

You’ve captured the essence of my druthers, Brother, but I’d be remiss if I did not also suggest the KJV.

One must note that Proverbs in the KJV has many marginal notes offering alternative translations. If you intend to do serious study, you need at least a KJV with such marginal notes or with alternative translations. Get a good commentary like Kitchen's also.

I appreciate the suggestions so far. I'm ideally looking for a contemporary translation if one is known to be good in the Proverbs specifically.
