C. Matthew McMahon

Christian Preacher
Put yourself on trial. Would you have the marks of a godly man? or woman? This work is not about being a "godly man" as if Burgess was speaking about masculinity, or being the head of the household. No, this is about a godly man in contrast to the wicked ungodly man.

The Marks of a Godly Man – by Daniel Burgess (1645-1713)

Would other people say you are a heathen or a Christian? Do you walk in the manner that Christ has directed? Does that show in the world? Does your heart tell you, show you and exhort you that you are in fact a Christian? Daniel Burgess masterfully explains the difference between the heart of a wicked unconverted man and the heart of a truly changed man in Jesus Christ. He shows the 5 marks of a godly man.

Mark 1 - The indwelling of God in the soul.
Mark 2 - Christ's reign in the soul.
Mark 3 - The Spirit’s work in the soul.
Mark 4 - The manner of godly man in the covenant of grace.
Mark 5 - The assurance of saving grace.

An awesome exposition that ought not to be missed. This work is not a scan or facsimile and has been made easy to read with an active table of contents for all electronic versions.

May look into it for the fall session of our men's study group. We have read some puritan paperbacks in the past. In our last session we read a newer book by Walter Chantry, Call the Sabbath a Delight. It is published by Banner of Truth.
