Haha Edward, gasps are part of it. They probably got mixed as carefully as everything else.Needs some post production work to clean up the gasps when they grab some air. They are particularly distracting at the beginning.

By part of it I mean that a lot of singers do it on purpose nowadays. Cyndi Lauper didn’t because breathiness wasn’t popular then. Trust me I know these things.No, they aren't. I went back and listened to the Cyndi Lauper version last night after listening to this one, and it didn't sound like she'd run a marathon before entering the studio. Perhaps nervousness by inexperienced or untrained singers.
