Afterthought

Is the "eternal Spirit" the Holy Spirit or is the "eternal Spirit" referring to Jesus' divine nature, thereby explicitly teaching that Christ offered the human nature on the altar of his divine (and so the sacrifice was of infinite value and worth)? Commentators differ.

Of course, if the passage refers to the Holy Spirit, the divine essence is one, so I would think (?) that the passage would implicitly teach such (having shown the Trinity to be the teaching of the Scriptures).

Interesting question, for does not Paul state also that the Spirit of the Lord, in this case in context would be Jesus Himself, is the Spirit?

Elliott makes a pretty good case that it is Christ's Divine Spirit that is referenced. He points out that the Holy Spirit is never called "the eternal Spirit" in the NT, and that there is nothing in the context to point to the Holy Spirit.

By way of contrast, he points out that the point of the passage is to highlight the efficacy and worth of Christ's sacrifice, over against the sacrifice of bulls and goats. He argues that the phrase highlights the infinite worth of the Divine Person, showing how great the contrast is.
