The song of Zechariah: God’s way is peace and salvation

Luke 1:68
A mouth once shut because of unbelief
His song begins on a thought the ending of four books of Psalms
Last Psalm of book 1, 2, 3 and 4 ( Psalms 41:14, Psalms 72:18, Psalm 89:52, Psalms 106:48 )
and in the last Psalm of David raised higher 'I will bless the Lord' and 'all flesh will bless the Lord' ( Ps 145:21 )
Blessed be the Lord.

A message heard in lowly field and spoken through men
... Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
... we found it in the fields of Jaar.
... “Let us go to his dwelling place;
... let us worship at his footstool!” Psalm 132:32
A fulfillment heard in Zechariah' ears in the Holy of Holies and spoken through an angel
His thoughts unable to express
Even as the baby in his wife's womb would express it's joy leaping in the presence of the Messiah
Even as surrounded by two excited and expecting women for months
His tongue would wait till now.

A mouth now opened
"His name shall be John"

Zechariah continues from a Psalm of Ascent
A song of the villagers traveling to the temple
Zechariah coming out of the most holy place in the temple
Promises of
.. "Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
.. and let your saints shout for joy." Psalm 132:9
a promise now being realized in a priesthood of believers

Luke 1:69-73
A horn of salvation is lifted up Psalm 132
Fulfillment
Of the promise to David
Of mercies to the fathers
Of the covenant of Abraham

Luke 1:74-75
Deliverance from enemies and fear
Dive in holiness and righteousness all our days

Zechariah sings from contrasting Psalms
A contrast that will resolve into peace and holiness
From the faithful history of faithfulness of what God did to Israel, Psalm 105: 8,9
From the penetiential history of what Israel did to God, Psalm 106: 48

And a father blesses and prophesies over his son
Luke 1:76,77
and you child
will go before the Lord
prepare his ways
give knowledge of salvation
forgiveness from sin
because of the tender mercy of our God,

The greater one will come
John was filled with the Holy Spirit, though fallen, broken man enabled to do a holy work.
Jesus was called the Holy child, holy by nature

Zechariah sings of the coming peace
and even in his song, John has been eclipsed by the coming one
he will increase but John will decrease
Deep darkness will be followed by a great sunrise
Luke 1:78,79
... By those mercies,
... the sunrise shall visit us from on high
... to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
... to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
The greater is sung of
yet John who did no miracle was a greater prophet than any other till then
pointing more clearly than any prophet that came before him to Jesus
He will guide our feet into the way of peace

And Luke? Luke will continue to write more on peace than any other gospel
Angels will sing of peace “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:14
Simeon will sing of peace
“Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; Luke 2:29

A woman will know forgiveness and peace
And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:50
Another woman will know health and peace
And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” Luke 8:48

Homes will know peace, but not all
Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. Luke 10:5
Some will know peace but not all and a peace even in conflict
“I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. Luke 12:49, 51

A peace valuable and to be considered rightly, counting the cost while not missing the worth. And rightly considered, the worth
prevails Terms of peace already on the table from God.
And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. Luke 14:32

A peace publicly sung
saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19:38
A peace publicly misunderstood
saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. Luke 19:42

A peace that is here
As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” Luke 24:36
'good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)' Acts 10:36c
