The silver trumpet of the Gospel proclaimeth pardon, mercy, adoption, salvation, the promises of this life and that which is to come, to those that have been deepest in this rebellion, if they come in. On the contrary it is most certain, all that stand out against Christ in their natural estate and impenitency, shall be subdued to their everlasting ruin and destruction: For He must reign till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

John Maynard, A shadow of the victory of Christ, represented to the Honourable House of Commons, in a sermon preached at Margaret’s Westminster on the day of the publick fast, Octob. 28. 1646 (London: Samuel Gellibrand, 1646), p. 16.
