It is not well known, but Richard Baxter was, besides being a writer of theological (doctrinal and practical) literature, also a poet.
His poetry is found in a work called Poetical Fragments: Heart Employment with God and itself. The concordant discord of a broken healed heart; sorrowing, rejoicing, fearing, hoping, living, diving (1681); Additions to the Poetical Fragments (1683); and his posthumous Paraphrase on the Psalms of David, with other Hymns.
