The New John Piper Book

I ordered John Piper's new book, Providence, on Friday - his new 752-page tome - from Reformation Heritage Books. It looks interesting. I should get it early next week (I always choose to use the UPS option).

It's probably not about the city in Rhode Island (H. P. Lovecraft's hometown, by the way). But don't quote me on that.

I'll be interested to know your thoughts. Providence has been of interest to me lately because of Flavel's work. Have you read Flavel on this subject?

I am intrigued to see that RHB has published it.
It's actually published by Crossway, which, at least as I understand it, has an exclusive contract with Piper. RHB is simply among the many sellers through which it is available (and from what I can tell at by far the best price...)

Whenever possible I buy through RHB or Westminster Theological Seminary Bookstore. More often than not the prices are competitive with Amazon and even if they're a little higher I'd rather support them than the oligarchs.

On my pastor's advice, I recently decided to switch to kindle or electronic format when buying books for decent prices and portability. Still, the kindle price for Piper's Providence is too much. I am looking for Amazon sales day.

Start yourself a list at ereaderiq.com. They will send you notifications when books you want reach the threshold you're willing to pay, the lowest price the book has ever been, etc.

Thanks a lot. I wish I had known that earlier. Look fantastic!

There is a free pdf version of Providence on John Piper's website, Desiring God. I think most of his books are available for free download on electronic format. Very generous of him.
Here's the link:

Well how is it

I've read the first few chapters. He's definitely coming at the subject as an application, you might say, of his "God gets joy from our joy in Him" perspective that he's written on for many years. The chapters I've read are introductory in nature. Haven't gotten into the meat of the book yet. It's interesting, and an easy read.

WTS bookstore had it on sale for $19 (physical copy) + plus you got it digitally in .epub, .mobi, and .pdf formats free. I picked it up, but am still wading through Calvin's Institutes, so Piper will sit on the shelf a little while longer. :book2:
