The Intimate Ella; Verve Records, catalog number 839 838-2.

Just listened to it again this evening. 13 songs sung beautifully, with her regular accompanist at the time, pianist Paul Smith (born in 1922) playing from his heart on every track.

Recorded in April, 1960, when Ella was at her peak, vocally. Just an amazing singer.

Go get this CD. Especially if you love great pop singing.

I'm a band director. :) Been playing sax for 22+ years. I may have to check that out..... in fact, now that you mention it, I think one of my kids had that CD this past week (my general music students did their presentations on famous people in music history).

I've had the opportunity to hear and speak with Paul Smith. What a great talent and a very nice man. Very underrated.
