    Any of you have it?

The news is my downfall, and I experience anxiety when I watch it. Lately, I have been dreading this flu season as the news is saying it’s the worst one yet. I think my irrational fear is
About my daughter who is so young and I feel her body won’t be able to fight it if it is as bad as they are saying.

Yes, I had it over Christmas. It felt like a cold for about a week, then for two more weeks I was coughing and congested. Three weeks total, but I made it. My son didn't catch it thankfully, but it really wasn't that bad at all, it just lingered. Don't worry about it my friend.

Matter of fact, I just got a flu shot and a pneumonia shot today.

Flu season is about June to September down here. We all had a touch of it in our house, but some people had it worse than others. Overall, it was one of the worst flu seasons ever in Australia. Now it's come your way...

My family got the flu shot and we all got the flu! My 2 year old and 6 month old grandchildren (who also live with me) weathered it fine.

I know what you mean about irrational fear. It is a harder temptation than the sickness itself.

Nothing like a good old "the sky is falling" scare by the big Pharmaceutical companies to keep the k'ching rolling in!

Actually, this year's flu is particularly virulent in part because it has mutated since the shot was formulated.

Ultimately, all flu vaccines use a presumption in building tha vaccine for the coming year. Mutation is inevitable. Bone up on Vitamin C. Get some ascorbic acid crystals and take at least 5 grams per day. I generally take 30 gms per day. If u follow this regimen, u will not get the flu.

5 (or 30) gms all at once or through out the day? Could taking that much C make one sick?

there is a term in the VC community known as ‘bowel tolerace’. Intake will cause loose stools and if you take straight ascorbic acid, some gastric unrest, I.e. gurgling and rumblings. Depending upon the level of scurvy u have from lack of VC, will determine just how much VC u need to ingest. This takes some time in determining as the uptake may vary due to hidden illnesses.

Hope you don't mind me adding in a question but does anyone take any vitamins other than C all year round? I started taking Elderberry syrup a few months ago but want to add to my vitamin collection.

Don't mind at all, I'd like to know what else others take as well.

    Just a daily multi vitamin.

    My suggestions: JERF

Just eat real food. If u eat right, u won’t really need supplementation. I went Paleo almost 8 yrs ago...eat well, train like a boss, sleep, repeat.

    I smoke cigars

To clarify - if I take 1000mg capsules of vitamin C, you are saying I should be taking at least 5? (Or the equivalent)

  17. Scott Bushey

    Fred,
At least 5... that’s the lower end. You can take it all at once or split it up throughout the day.

Google Linus Pauling. He’s the only man to win two Nobel prizes. One for Chemistry and one for peace. His formula is what I follow. Pauling’s mentality is that most humans have a sub therapeutic scurvy- not actual cardiac hardening of the arteries; most cardiothoracic specialists now agree that much of what we know of cardiac disease is actually inflammation or a scurvy- like disorder.

I take about 30 grms per day of the homemade lypospheric. It is more tolerable that way. Less GI issues.

The package in the link you have is also 1000 mg? Do you put multiple packages in one drink? How many drinks per day?

Am I reading the linked page right? Would it be $32 per DAY of Vitamin C?

    Fred,
The mixture I make myself is much more potent. The Livon product is ridiculously priced. I can teach u how to make it using an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and a blender. I have a Vitamix, which helps. My mix, I drink 3 gulps per day. Not a scientific measurement by any means but in each batch I make there is like 250 grams per bottle.

I agree, Scott, and although our food sources are compromised with poor soil quality, chemicals, etc., one can still eat relatively well. We eat less red meat now because we only eat grass fed from a local guy who uses no soy or corn.

After a recent visit with my GP who teaches her patients about Paleo and Nourishing Traditions, I upped my C, although I take it in a different form than you, and D to 10,000iu, due to blood work.

Over the years we have always used supplements with caution and start one new one at a time to chart the bodies reaction.

Very encouraged to read what you are doing!

Jean, our daughter works in an ER and said they continue to struggle with finding rooms and beds for the growing number of sick people with Influenza A. I've heard the vaccine only works for 10% of the population this year.

Josh, I am working with a nutritional consultant due to a medical need and she told me the #1 help for the body for all conditions is to lower one's sugar intake, in all forms. I am now a student of glycemic index and have become a chemist in the kitchen, coming up with tasty treats.

Sadly, high doses of Vitamin C can indeed cause GI issues or may interfere with other medications, like the blood thinner I take. I say "sadly" because it's true that high doses of Vitamin C have been shown to help protect against colds and flu.

Also, wash your hands often and avoid picking your nose.

I came down with the Flu on Monday. My fever is gone, but I sound terrible and my mouth and throat feel like I've been drinking sawdust. My parents apparently shared it with each other. And now 3 of my sister's 5 kids has it, including their 21-month old. Not fun.

It isn't the flu that kills exactly, it is the cytokine storm some people get. from wiki:

The cytokine storm is the systemic expression of a healthy and vigorous immune system resulting in the release of more than 150 known inflammatory mediators

It is believed that cytokine storms were responsible for the disproportionate number of healthy young adult deaths during the
1918 influenza pandemic, which killed 50 to 100 million people. In this case, a healthy immune system may have been a liability rather than an asset.

I got out some elderberry Sambucol for my bad cold, which is a proven flu and cold helper, and right on the box it says not to use it if you have asthma meds which suppress the immune system, since it boosts the immune system. Crazy.....I mean too much of a healthy immune system can kill you.

    Prayers for all.

There was a strong suggestion at church this morning to not shake hands when greeting folks.
