The Crucified God
Has anyone read this book by Jurgen Moltmann? I whacked this question over in general theology but nobody replied so I thought I'd pop in in hear.
If anyone has read it, what do you think of it?
It posits the passability of God. God suffers. The Son suffered on the cross, and the Father suffered also because His Son suffered. God also suffers with those who suffer today.
However, Moltmann suggests that it is a sovereign passability - God suffers only because God allows Himself to suffer. Rather than a passive suffering caused by something external acting on God, it is an active suffering of love, coming from within God. The Father freely gives up the Son, and the Son freely gives himself up, and so God elects His own suffering.
