St. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX (1090-1153)

When the Word departs, it is as though you were to remove the fire from
beneath a bioling pot. Immediately the water calms down and gets cold.
For me this is the sign of His departure, and my soul necessarily feels
sad until He comes back. The usual sign of His return is that my heart
within me begins to warm again. Such, indeed, is my experience with the

I just finished the book : The two-fold knowledge readings on the knowledge of self & the knowledge of God. Selected and transelated from the works of Bernard of Clairvaux, by Franz Posset. I totally surprised and amazed what kind of a wonderfull preacher Bernard was, no wonder that Calvin and Luther quote him so much

Bernard founded the monastery at Clairvaux on June 25, 1115.

Bernard died on August 21, 1153.
