Q. What are the breaches concerning the body of the dead?

A. When friends and neighbours neglect to see it honestly buried, & funerals performed with moderate mourning: also it belongeth to the person himself, to give order for his own comely and Christian burial.

Thomas Cartwright, A treatise of Christian religion. Or, the whole body and substance of divinity (2nd edn, London: Thomas Man, 1616), p. 138.

This morning I was interested to hear John Murray's application of the word heresy to the incursion of platonic thinking to the disembodied soul as our ultimate state. What a hope we have in being body and soul and that our bodies remain united to Christ even in death.
