Rev 20 and the thousand years

I know that chilias means the number 1000. John used the word chilioi in Revelation regarding the reign of Christ over the nations. Why chilioi rather than chilias?

From what I have read, chilioi means a thousand, but not necessarily one thousand as chilias does.
