I grow really big pumpkin leaves and long, long stems - just nothing much in the way of pumpkins. Over the years I have tried various types - all trailing and all capable of growing pumpkins that should do well. Would you advise pinching out the growing tips once they have reached a certain length - or let them just romp around the veg patch? Should I bury the leaf nodes to encourage the development of more root points?

If a site with so many from the USA can't help - I'm going over to flowers!

Found this on a web site:

" too much nitrogen causes vines to produce leaves at the expense of flowers." Are you putting a lot of nitrogen fertilizer on them? If so, try cutting that out and putting organic matter to enrich the soil. Can you all get free soil testing there?

Maybe if you read to them . . .

(I still remember reading to our plants in elementary school :)

I would choose something like Cinderella, to encourage them to grow as big as possible, just in case.
