Protestant Scholasticism and the Biblical Text

The old Protestant Scholastics have suffered horribly at the hands of later generations of liberal and neo-orthodox theologians. One of the misrepresentations that has passed into the popular mind is that the Scholastics were more at home in the fields of philosophy and logic than in the Scripture, and so they were frequently guilty of empty proof-texting and Scripture-twisting.

We can be grateful for the work of Muller, van Asselt, Trueman, etc., in demonstrating just what a falsehood this is.

Recently I had the opportunity to translate Bernardinus De Moor's Dissertation on the apparent contradiction between Mark 15:25 and John 19:14. De Moor is a Scholastic par excellence, and yet the sophistication of his interaction with the text is awe-inspiring. And he is not alone: He cites Scholastic author after Scholastic author in this detailed treatment of the text and textual tradition.

Have a look for yourself. You can begin to follow the thread here: http://www.bernardinusdemoor.com/title-page-3/.
