Can I ask PB members to pray for the government of Australia. We have a new Prime Minister - Julia Gillard. She is our first female Prime Minister.

The reason I am asking for prayer is that she is explicitly "non-religious" and is a member of a socialist organization. There are some concerns that her non-religious beliefs will begin to shape this country for the worse.
Please pray that she will govern wisely and fairly, and especially come to know the Lord Jesus as her King and Saviour!

I looked on CNN to read this: "Australia's new prime minister, Julia Gillard, said Thursday that she had respect for the leadership of her predecessor, Kevin Rudd, but moved to replace him because 'I came to the view that the government was losing its way.'" It seemed so strange how Ms. Gillard became PM.

We have a huge sense here that our United States government is losing its way also.

PM Gough Whitlam was a pronounced atheist back in the 70s.

On the upside, at least she's honest...unlike *here*, where people are non-religious and live by non-religious beliefs, but proclaim Christianity.

On the other hand we had Sir Robert Menzies, a conservative and a Presbyterian, as Prime Minister for 17 years (also I think Whitlam was an agnostic and an occasionally practicing Anglican). Overall we have done very well as far as our politicians go - could be much, much worse.

Yes, Prime Minister Gillard does seem to be honest and straight forward, about both her beliefs and her politics.

I myself am from the US. As you know, our county is in great decline, too. But I was quite concerned that this secularist and socialist lady was elected to PM in Australia. It is regrettable that you do not now have an evangelical Christian at the head of government.

I will certainly be endeavouring to remember you in my poor and feeble prayers.
