That's a difficult one, Benjamin. Gamble, Witsius, and a'Brakel are about the same at the top for me. I'm reading Gamble, as it is a very important part of my thesis preparation. Look for a full review fairly soon. Six one way, half a dozen the other between Witsius and a'Brakel.
 
I'm about 1/4 through Gamble, and it hasn't been so rewarding yet. But, I'm just about through all the "intro" stuff and about to dive into the real meat of the book, so I'm anticipating it picking up.
 
I vote for Ferguson.

His book on the Holy Spirit is very good... but it is also a relatively quick/easy read. If all you're looking for is a "break" from Van Til... then read something short enough to give you that break without being so long that it becomes a whole reading project in itself.

If you're looking to take a break, Ferguson is an easy read. So is Pipa, and the book's fairly short, so I'm voting for him. ;)
