Puritan Board Senior
Greetings PB brethren,

If you've been considering picking up Matthew Poole's Commentary but haven't wanted to spend $35+, today's your day. Bought as separate volumes, you'll come out to $19:

Vol 1, https://www.christianbook.com/matth...olume-1/matthew-poole/pd/06283.1?event=CBCER1

Vol 2, https://www.christianbook.com/matth...olume-2/matthew-poole/pd/06283.2?event=CBCER1

Vol 3, https://www.christianbook.com/matth...olume-3/matthew-poole/pd/06283.3?event=CBCER1

This is a very helpful Puritan commentary to have! I commend it to you with enthusiasm.

Enjoy!

Interesting to me that much of the current commenatries done are able to expound much better on things outside the Bible, such as history, languages, curent understanding, yet are worse at just commenting on whatthe scriptures say themselves!

For all our "advances" in biblical studies, I'm not always sure that we've actually advanced. "Current understanding" of Scripture is often misunderstanding.

I read modern commentators, but often find much more sense in the writings of the venerable dead. There are blessed exceptions to that statement, however.

Just my $0.02...

Do you know if these are complete, unabridged? Or if there has been some editing to "modernize" Scripture quotations, etc., as is done in some modern reprints of old works?

I use modern commenataries for study, as do think that the good authors have much more background information, and more up to date sources, but the older ones seem to many times catch more of the intent of the Bible spiritually!
