Solomon's reflection on wisdom digs an entrenched dichotomy between folly and wisdom, culminating in chapter 9. Here, wisdom and folly are the most immediately juxtaposed you'll find in Proverbs.

Both figures rise to the city's limits and entice simple men to dine in their homes, but only Wisdom is faithful to her guests. If both wisdom and folly seem so similar, the question may rise, how do simple men ever tell the difference?

Solomon is gracious and gives us the key: "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Wisdom is the spoils our victorious Lord distributes to those he loves, who fear him faithfully in all their ways.
