I teach the high school aged Sunday school class and this past week we were studying John 17. This, of course, is the High Priestly Prayer.
I don't know why, but in the opening prayer to our lesson, I asked Jesus to "pray for us." That has not happened since I left Catholicism. It left me with an awkward feeling and asking myself, "was that right?" Because I spent 10 years in Roman Catholicism "pray for us" may have just came out as a sort of lingering, dormant habit.
The HPP is Jesus interceding for us in a prayer to the Father but is it appropriate to ask for prayers? I suppose the same could be asked about the Holy Spirit.
