Steve, I am delighted that you've taken on Poole's Synopsis and DeMoor. These are both intrinsically important works. But pursuing such enormous projects, why have you chosen to add Heidegger? This will inevitably slow down your work on Poole and DeMoore. I'm not being critical, just curious.

Greetings, Jim.

I teach Old and New Testament Surveys at the local university. It has not been easy to find a good introductory textbook. Some problems with the textbooks: 1. The reading level is too high (sad). 2. Too much information for an introductory text. 3. The wrong information, obsessing over the history of scholarship, rather than the Bible itself, or carrying the infection of the Higher Critical models.

Heidegger's Introduction is to the point, with a consistent focus upon the contents of the Bible itself and upon the Savior Christ.

The Book of Ecclesiastes has always been a challenge for students of the Bible. On the surface, it sounds more like Existentialist philosophy than Biblical wisdom. But that's just the surface...

J.H. Heidegger whets our appetite for this precious text.

Ancient history uniformly attributes the authorship of Ecclesiastes to Solomon.

Modern critical scholarship attributes it to a later hand, taking on the persona of Solomon.

It is interesting how older scholarship (see, for example, J.H. Heidegger) almost always prefers the testimony of real history to speculative scholarly re-constructions...

Not only is the Book of Ecclesiastes difficult to understand, but even the meaning of its title is not obvious!

What does "Ecclesiastes" mean? Why does Solomon call himself "the Qoheleth"?
