Jeremiah 9:24 says, "but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD."

What is meant by the word, "boast?"

As Paul's quote of this text in the NT indicates, it is a "glorying," an exulting, a taking-pride in. Those who originally receive this saying are guilty of boasting in themselves. If you must boast, at least make it worthwhile, something truly praiseworthy, worthy of glory. A true knowledge of God is a self-abasing (not a pride-full) glory.
