James Bannerman on the distinction between the being and well-being of the church

Bannerman's The Church of Christ was one of my reading projects for the summer. It is a great work, though I would have a few minor disagreements with the author. The Free Churchmen of that era really knew how to write well. I often think that their literary excellence was one of the few good things to come out of Romanticism.

Bannerman was the straw that broke the baptist camel's back for me! I agree these men had an excellent writing "style" - very logical and I especially appreciate the way they set forth a truth in sentence form, which they explain and then, build upon. It's a very effective way of writing.
