iPhone book reader which can preserve notes?

I've been using iBooks on my iPod Touch to read EPUB ebooks. In iBooks I can add bookmarks, highlight text, add notes to the highlighted text. But there is no way to save that data. If there is ever a glitch between iTunes and iBooks during syncing the notes I've written get thrown away. This has happened a couple of times where I have made a lot of notes.

Does anyone have recommendations for a book reader which supports bookmarks, highlighting text, adding notes to highlighted text AND has the ability to save and restore that data?

After a lot more internet reading I've learned iBooks in iOS 7 can preserve both bookmarks and notes. My device cannot be upgraded to version 7.
