In Charles Hodge's Systematic Theology, Vol 1, pg 589, he states this:

In 1 Chron 10:4-14 it is said that Saul slew himself, but it is elsewhere said that the Lord slew him and turned his kingdom unto David.

I am racking my brain and I cannot remember where the Bible says that it was the Lord who slew him. Is Hodge referring to the general promise that God made to David that he would get the kingdom someday?

1 Chron. 10:13 So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. 14 He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

It's 1 Kings that says he killed himself.
