How that faith now works in our hearts cannot be fully described. The working of the Spirit is so wonderful, so inseparable, so hard to put into words. Here we have a miracle and we are faced with a mystery. I know that this is not obtained through historical-critical investigations and explanatory studies. Also not because of a favorable disposition or a solid character. It is worked in us by a powerful, immediate impression, at the moment that the reality of spiritual things powerfully and irresistibly forces itself upon our souls and manifests itself as truth. Suddenly, suddenly a light rises in us, showing us the misery of the "below" and the holiness and glory of the "above".
