Google Question - How to get the icon next to the search result

Hello. I use Google sites for the Puritan Search website, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the icon next to the search result to change. I have updated the Favicon in Google sites, and still to no avail. Does anybody have any ideas? I cannot get that globe to change to the brand logo.

Hello.

Are you the site owner? I’m pretty sure the only way to change how it appears in those results is to update the HTML file of the website itself or through the relevant dashboard depending on how it’s hosted.

If you are the site owner then I’m happy to make time this weekend to sit and go through it with you as I’m sure given a little bit of time we could figure it out.

Yes. I am the site owner. And that would be awesome. I dont know if it matters, but the site is through Google Sites.

Leave it with me and I’ll have a look during this week and try find a solution for you. I have a slow day at work tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be able to sort it then.

Thank you so much for the offer. But I am not going to give out the credentials to the domain with people I do not know. If you would like to take a look at the site on the web, it is www.puritansearch.org But if you need to get into my Google Sites, unfortunately, I am going to have to pass on that. Could you please tell me the dimensions of the Favicon you’ve tried to upload to your website?

In order for it to show on Google Search it needs to be multiples of 48, e.g. 48x48, 96x96 etc.

This can be easily remedied by resizing it on a website.

Oh no not at all, I was thinking of a phone call or something via Skype :) But I am just as happy agreeing a time to simply be logged in here to message back and forth to hopefully solve it.

Oh, OK. Sorry about that, lol. The size is 144x144. And we can definitely do a phone call or Skype. I am off Fri and Sat, between the hours of 8am-2pm US Central Time, and then again after around 8:30 pm.

What is the image format? PNG, JPG etc?

Also it may simply just be that Google's taking their time updating things and checking for updates like that across websites in the search results.

Editing to add: I just viewed the website's page source through the browser and I found the icon you're trying to use and it's listed as 143x143. However it isn't listed as a Favicon. It may just be that the HTML has changed since I last used it, but it was usually listed as fav, not icon, in the code.


Apologies, I'm sure you've already done this, but worth the short watch just in case it's something as simple as that, or re-publishing the site after the changes were made.
