God. This refers to one eternal, infinite, unchangeable, spiritual being who is distinguished in three separate persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Deuteronomy 6:4 says, “Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD.” “There is one God, and one mediator,” says 1 Timothy 2:5. But Isaiah 61:1 refers to God as more than one person, saying, “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD hath anointed me.” One person anoints, another is being anointed, and the object of the anointing is still another person. One person of the Godhead prays, He prays to another person, and still another person is sent; yet there is only one God. Therefore, we apply the word God to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
