Puritan Board Doctor
Does anyone have any biographical information on this man. All I've been able to find out is that he was a Dutch pastor who died in 1946. He was forced to retire from his pastorate due to illness, and devoted his time to a writing ministry, including a commentary on the Heidelberg Catechism.

Also: what did the G. stand for?

I have a used copy of that commentary arriving in tomorrow's mail, and it would be nice to know something about him. My internet search was sparse.

Gijsbertus Van Reenen was a minister in the Gereformeerde Gemeente, born in 1863, died 1935 (not 1946-I'm pretty sure that's an error, though if I have the wrong one, forgive me). He apprenticed as an artist (stained glass) before becoming a minister of the gospel in 1898 or 1899. He suffered from a nervous disposition and other ailments which forced him to retire after having served four congregations.

More information (in Dutch) is here: https://www.gergeminfo.nl/voorgangers/g-van-reenen

The book arrived today. The preface states that he died in 1946. The Dutch article you provided (thanks for that!) states that he was born in 1864, not 1863. So, he's still mysterious!
