For the sake of your name; For your mercy’s sake Seven Psalms sing. More Psalms ring in consonance

Seven Psalms sing of God acting or God appealed to for the sake of his name
Psalms 23, 25, 31, 79, 106, 109, 143

Psalm 22 is prelude. The man of sorrows sings a song of suffering,
it upturned in triumph to a time when the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord
and it moves to the next song, as it were carrying that note over and again breaks into song:
The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want

Psalm 23
For his name’s sake he cares for me. He restores. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Goodness and mercy always follow, even when I walk unafraid through bleak lows and the shadow of death all around.
For His name’s sake I shall not want. For his name sake, goodness and mercy follow me all the days now and forever.

Psalm 25
For your name's sake, you forgive me. O Lord, you pardon my guilt, although that guilt is great, for your name sake
No one who wait on you will be ashamed Those who deal treacherously will be ashamed
Out of His goodness, he teaches humbled sinners in the way. The humble He leads in justice
In some ways, dealing publicly.
In some ways dealing privately.
The secret of the Lord, something not public, is with those who fear Him
and He will show them his covenant.

Psalm 31
Into your hands I commit my spirit.
For your name sake you are my stability.and guide me. For you are my rock and my fortress/ For your name sake
Great is your goodness which you prepared for those who trust in you
Goodness shown in public, to your glory
But keeping your people hidden in the secret place
your presence
He preserves the faithful to His glory
He rewards the proud to His glory

David has sung the first three songs and Asaph will sing the center song.

Psalm 79
Asaph cries as he sings and it is a dirge
A lament over the bodies of victims of a conquered land.
An appeal to God based on something found in the nature of God
For your name sake, you help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name's sake
So we the people of your pasture will give thanks forever
We will showcase your praise to all generations never ending.

David will continue with three more.

David has sung a historic song of God's faithfulness in history about what God did for his people in Psalm 105
now singing a historic penitential song of sorrow over what his people did to him and their need of mercy

Psalm 106
We also sinned, committed iniquity, acted wicked, us as well as our fathers
Although they didn't understand, for your name sake, there was the Exodus that you might make known your mighty power. For your name sake

Psalm 109
A poster child of evil is put forth
One that doesn't care about the poor and needy
One who killed even the brokenhearted
One who loves cursing not blessing
so his curses will land on himself
God is not like that
I can appeal to you on the basis of your name sake. You, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for Your name's sake; because Your steadfast love is good, deliver me! For your name sake.
But you care about the poor and needy
and you even stand at the right hand of the poor, even as Jesus stood with Stephen.
and the note is held a bit and the thought thought of the anointed who stands (not sits) at the right hand of the God in Psalm 109 is held over to the next Psalms as if two parts of one song
where the same will sit (not stand) at the right hand of God in Psalm 110 'until I make you rest your feet on your enemies'

Momentum of the mystery continues
as twin acrostic psalms 111 and 112 sing of the blessed God and the blessed man
deliberately similar and sharing phrases, as if two parts of one song
unmistakably tethering the two with a phrase occurring in no other psalm 'His righteousness endures forever'
"His righteousness endures forever" said of the blessed God one time in 111
"his righteousness endures forever" said of the blessed man two times in 112
Righteousness, charity and victory over evil sung once in 111, three times in 112
God's righteousness, charity and victory over evil displayed with greater clarity somehow through the blessed man
Each theme touched on once in 111 and triple in 112

and yet the final Psalm there is a reminder
In your sight no one on earth is righteous.
A plea for mercy

Psalm 143
in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief.
Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you.
In your sight no one on earth is righteous.
I can ask for help for your name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life! In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble! Show me mercy for your name sake.
Lead me in the way of uprightness
Revive me for your name's sake
In you mercy even destroy my enemies
for I am your servant.

Seven Psalms have sung of God acting or being appealed to on the basis of His sake. Not to us, but to your name give glory.
The glory of His name finds resonance with the glory of His attributes, other themes ring in consonance
Mercy, goodness, faithfulness and truth step forward.

God's name tethered to God's attributes. Some attributes appealed to more than others.
Appeals for the sake of God’s mercy His loyal loving-kindness, his truth and goodness stand out and closely tied to his name.
Little or no appeals for the sake of God’s wrath or his omnipresence
Little of no appeals for the sake of God’s self existence or his omniscience
But remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.

Appeals for the sake of God’s mercy, his loyal loving-kindness closely tied to his name.
I know two things. You are great and you are good.
The loudest resonance coming from mercy, loving kindness, truth and goodness

Whether appeals for mercy sake to save me, that my enemies might flee
Whether acknowledgement of we are led like sheep to slaughter for your sake
For your name sake and for your mercy's sake work together.
Actions and appeals for an overarching best of all reasons.

Acting for the sake of David, your servant who God has places special promises on
Acting for the sake of places your name is honored, represented by Jerusalem
You act for the sake of your people on whom your name rests
And they act for your sake whether in gladness or persecution

Alluding to the blessed man, Jesus Christ
Who displays God's righteousness, long suffering and generous mercy and ultimate triumph over evil
All for the sake of your name
